Open Studio

This season, we are pleased to offer Open Studio times with Emma Frazier. This is a time to bring in your projects and enjoy use of our tools in a relaxed environment. While Emma will be not teaching technique at these times, she will be there to brainstorm with you and offer her wise opinions!

Apply Color to Metal

Learn a simple technique of adding different colors to flat pieces of metal. This is a fun and creative way to apply your own pattern to a blank pendant or ring. When it dries, the surprise is in the shiny finish!

Apply Color to Metal Workshop

Basic Bead Stringing

In this technique class, you will learn about the different materials and tools used for stringing beads in a manner that will hold up over time. This will include the use of soft-flex and crimp beads, knotting between beads and applying bead tips, and attaching cord crimps and a clasp to leather cording. You will leave class with samples to refer to for future stringing projects. All materials are included in the class fee.

Basic Bead Stringing Workshop

Basics of Bead Embroidery

Bead embroidery is a timeless technique which can add depth, dimension and visual interest to virtually any project. In class, we will focus on making a pendant which can either stand alone or be incorporated into a more elaborate piece. Students will learn couching, backstitch, lazy stitch, boucle stitch, fringe, edging, and more. Suitable for beginners.

Basics of Bead Embroidery Workshop

Beaded Mesh Crystal Cage

Capture raw crystal chunks in custom-made beaded cages. Graphic, clean, and elegant, this project is perfect for irregular shaped stones or beads. Learn how to make free-form beaded netting, and fit each individual stone to its cage. All skill levels are welcome.

Beaded Orbs

Learn to weave a sphere from fabulous faceted beads! Complete a pair of earrings in this class and add a pop of color to your outfit. Sparkly crystals or earthy fire-polished rounds provide a variety of styles within one technique. Beginners welcome.

Cage Wrapping

Have you ever come across a beautiful crystal or rock that you would love to wear as a pendant, but were stumped as to how to convert it into one, as it did not have a hole for stringing? Come learn how to transform those precious crystals, rocks and stones into beautiful pendants by mastering the art of wire wrap bezels. Each and every one is naturally unique!

Cage Wrapping Workshop

Coiled Hoop Earrings

Explore this deceptively simple technique and create a stunning pair of hoop earrings. Some wire experience is helpful for this class, and a bit of patience is required! Play with multiple colors of wire and beads to create dramatic effects.

Crocheted Components

If you love beads AND textiles, then this class is for you! We’ll cover the basics of bead crochet - chain stitch, single and double crochet, when and how to add beads, and incorporate stylish metal components into the finished designs. Suitable for beginners.

Crocheted Turkish Wrap Bracelet Workshop

Fancy Wire Beads

The sky is the limit when you can make your own metal beads without having to resort to heat processes. Using nothing but wire, seed beads and tiny crystals, learn to create beaded spacer beads, stacked beads, and chunky barrel beads with a surface décor of curlicue lace.

Fancy Wire Beads Workshop

Findings

This class is a dream come true for those of you who have been aspiring to make your own quality findings. Form, flatten and harden various gauges of wire to create your own custom finishing touches to your work. You'll learn how to shape and move metal with no heat necessary. A variety of ear-wires, a hook and eye clasp, and a toggle clasp are all taught in this class.

Floating Bead Necklace Workshop

Free-form Stone Setting

In this class students will learn to wrap the edge of stones with copper foil,cover the foil with solder using a soldering iron and then attach jump ringsto create pendants for necklaces or earrings. This method of stone settingallows the piece to be viewed from both sides by creating an open bezelsetting. This is a great class for beginners and those wanting to addsomething new to their skill set.

Free-form Stone Setting Workshop

Fused Silver Links

Learn the art of fine silver fusing in this new offering. Using the torch, you will fuse large and small fine silver links, without the use of solder, to create a beautiful graduated silver link necklace. Once constructed you will finish the links with a hammered texture and patina for a truly handmade & artisan look. You will also learn how to make and fuse fine silver jump rings. This is a great class for beginners and for those wanting to add a new skill to their bag of tricks.

Learn how to make unique metal components for your jewelry designs. In this class, we will explore how to design, shape and put to use one of a kind metal parts. This class does not include instruction on soldering or fusing. The focus of this class is on hammering and shaping.

Intro to Metalsmithing

Are you ready to expand your jewelry making skills? Then come join us for this introductory metalsmithing class where we go over how to safely work in a metalsmithing studio and what the various tools are used for. You will have the opportunity to see what it is like to drill a hole with a flex shaft, use a rolling mill to flatten a piece of metal, use a torch to solder a jump ring…and so much more. This is a great class for all levels of experience with metalsmithing.

Loom Woven Leather Bracelet

This wide cuff bracelet is woven on a loom and echoes the look of popular leather wrap bracelets with the advantage of faster beading and even tension. Students will learn the basics of loom warping, weaving, decreasing for a tapered end, and adding a clasp. Instruction for simple patterning will be given in class. Suitable for beginners.

We will cover basicdesign and construction techniques to make a strand of prayer beads thatwill hold up to good use. Mala Design and Construction Workshop

Peyote Beaded Bezel

Have you ever found a cabochon that was too pretty to pass up, but lacked the tools to make a metal bezel? This class will teach you how to transform a coin or cabochon into a stunning pendant or set of earrings. Use seed beads, needle, and thread to secure your special piece in a reversible beaded bezel. This class will cover simple tubular peyote stitch (including the 'step-up'), bead selection and color coordination. How to properly size your beaded bezel will also be covered. Suitable for beginners.

Rings

The ring...a simple circle that symbolizes many things. It is a platform for beautiful craftsmanship and imagination, from subtle intricacies to dramatic design, the ring tells a story of artist and wearer simultaneously. In this workshop students will learn how to size, pierce, saw, solder and shape multiple rings. By using silver sheet and multiple gauges of different types of wire students will create several finished pieces. This is a great class for beginners and a great review for those with previous soldering experience.

Soldered Linked Bracelet

Learn to make your own chain link bracelet and clasp. The application for this technique is quite versatile. In this class, students will learn how to cut their own jump rings and then solder them together. The piece is finished off with a handcrafted clasp.
