Open Studio

This season, we are pleased to offer Open Studio times with Emma Frazier. This is a time to bring in your projects and enjoy use of our tools in a relaxed environment. While Emma will be not teaching technique at these times, she will be there to brainstorm with you and offer her wise opinions!

Beaded Bookbinding

Learn to bind together prepared journal pages into a hardcover 3.25’ x 4.75” notebook. The finished product will be embellished with assorted beads and a Belgian binding style. This journal makes a wonderful gift and treasured keepsake. No prior experience required.

Beaded Bookbinding Workshop

Bezel Setting

Spend a Saturday learning how to bezel set stones! In this class, you will learn how to bezel set a cabochon (flat backed stone) into a ring or pendant. You will learn how to properly measure bezel wire, solder it to silver sheet, clean up the setting, and then the grand finale….set the cabochon into the setting! Previous metalsmithing experience is required for this class to include using a torch. This class is not appropriate for beginners.

Bezel Setting Workshop

Cage Wrapping

Have you ever come across a beautiful crystal or rock that you would love to wear as a pendant, but were stumped as to how to convert it into one, as it did not have a hole for stringing? Come learn how to transform those precious crystals, rocks and stones into beautiful pendants by mastering the art of wire wrap bezels. Each and every one is naturally unique! Each workshop meets once.

Cage Wrapping Workshop

Classic Prong Setting

In this class you will learn one of the classic and timeless settings that never goes out of style…the four prong setting. You will learn how to fit a round faceted stone to the correctly sized prong setting. We will go over how to measure and cut the seats by hand. At the end of the class you will have a finished pendant, and with the addition of chain, you are ready to wear your new treasure home! Prior experience using a jewelry saw and files is required.

Classic Prong Setting  Workshop

Festive Chandelier Earrings

Learn how to create a stunning pair of earrings without breaking the bank! Both elegant and playful this design suits many styles. These earrings make a great last minute holiday gift and once you get the technique down, making multiples is a breeze. All experience levels are welcome.

Festive Chandelier Earrings Workshop

Findings

This class is a dream come true for those of you who have been aspiring to make your own quality findings. Form, flatten and harden various gauges of wire to create your own custom finishing touches to your work. You'll learn how to shape and move metal with no heat necessary. A variety of ear-wires, a hook and eye clasp, and a toggle clasp are all taught in this class.

Findings Workshop

Flat Peyote Stitch

Join veteran bead artist Lynzee for a fun intro to the world of off loom flat bead weaving using the famous Peyote Stitch. In this class you will learn the basics of starting and completing a beaded ring. The knowledge you gather can then be applied to a whole world of possibilities! We will be using Japanese Delica seed beads in size 11/0. We will cover even and odd stitch options, how to artfully color combine and the basics of peyote design potential. Students will have the option to create a bracelet instead of a ring if they are so inspired. Beginners welcome!

Flat Peyote Stitch Workshop

Free Form Stone Setting

In this class students will learn to wrap the edge of stones with copper foil,cover the foil with solder using a soldering iron and then attach jump ringsto create pendants for necklaces or earrings. This method of stone settingallows the piece to be viewed from both sides by creating an open bezelsetting. This is a great class for beginners and those wanting to addsomething new to their skill set. Each workshop meets once.

Free Form Stone Setting Workshop

Hammered Components

Learn how to make unique metal components for your jewelry designs. In this class, we will explore how to design, shape and put to use one of a kind metal parts. The creation of these components really gives your work a unique styling. You can use any metal you prefer for these techniques. All skill levels welcome. This class does not include instruction on soldering or fusing. The focus of this class is on hammering and shaping.

Hammered Components Workshop

Intro to Beading

Come learn all the foundational techniques in making a quality beaded necklace or bracelet. We will go over all the basics from crimping a crimp bead onto softflex, attaching leather to crimp ends and clasps, and tying a proper slip knot. Last but not least, we will go over how to do a basic wire wrap that can be used for earrings, and chains. There will also be time at the end of the class for you to work with your own beads and materials to start a project and ask questions. This workshop is offered twice. Each workshop meets once.

Intro to Beading  Workshop

Intro to Metalsmithing

Are you ready to expand your jewelry making skills? Then come join us for this introductory metalsmithing class where we go over how to safely work in a metalsmithing studio and what the various tools are used for. You will have the opportunity to see what it is like to drill a hole with a flex shaft, use a rolling mill to flatten a piece of metal, use a torch to solder a jump ring…and so much more. This is a great class for all levels of experience with metalsmithing. Each workshop meets once.

Malas, prayer beads, worry beads.. all offer a connection to something sacredand meditative. Bring a mala needing repair, come with beads you havebeen wanting to use in a mala, or simply come with your curiosity and beguided into making the right choice for your purpose. We will cover basicdesign and construction techniques to make a strand of prayer beads thatwill hold up to good use. If you bring a strand in need of repair, we willfigure out the best solution together. This class welcomes all levels of beadstringing skills. Just come with interest!

Organic Prong Setting

It’s time to get ready to expand your stone setting skills by learning how to set that uniquely shaped stone or found object in a prong setting. In this class, you will learn how to create your own handmade prong setting for that one of a kind object. Previous experience with metalsmithing is required. You will be working with a torch, jewelers saw and files. It is required that you have previously worked with these tools.

Organic Prong Setting  Workshop

Soldered Gold-Filled Bangle with Custom Charm

Get ready to solder some gold but without the high cost of pure gold! Join us in this gold-filled solder class where you will learn how to make a gold-filled bangle bracelet that will fit your wrist perfectly. Each student will then cut, out of gold or silver, a custom made charm that will hang from the bangle. At the end of the class you will have an elegant gold bangle that is truly a lovely form of personal expression. No prior metalsmithing experience is required.

Soldered Gold-Filled Bangle with Custom Charm  Workshop

Soldered Linked Bracelet

Learn to make your own chain link bracelet and clasp. The application for this technique is quite versatile. In this class, students will learn how to cut their own jump rings and then solder them together. The piece is finished off with a handcrafted clasp. This is a great class for beginners or anyone that would like to brush up on their soldering skills.

Soldered Linked Bracelet  Workshop

Stackable Rings

Come experience the creative effects of melting silver…on purpose! This technique brings out the amazing texturing possibilities of silver without all of the intense clean-up to follow. We will also solder together some simple bands that you can apply a hammered or sand paper finish. By the end of class you will have a set of stackable rings to wear. How fun is that? No prior metalsmithing experience is required.
